Vulcan Materials employees rightly have their focus on the ground and quarries we work in, but given the chance to look to the sky, we can truly soar.
Two of Vulcan’s military veterans from Western North Carolina, Tom Cathey and Alex Readling, had the honor of serving as guardians for World War II veterans making the Blue Ridge Honor Flight from Asheville to Washington D.C. on April 29 to participate in a WWII Memorial and wreath laying ceremony.
The Honor Flight included World War II veterans as well as veterans who served in Vietnam and Koreas. In addition to the wreath laying ceremony, veterans and guardians visited all of the war memorials in our nation’s capital.
Guardians help throughout the day and are committed to assisting from sunrise to sundown, with a full day of remembrance and honors in our nation’s capital.
Vulcan’s Foundation proudly supports the Blue Ridge Honor Flight (WNC) and the Triad Honor Flight (Greensboro, NC). A little history: the Honor Flights were first started in Hendersonville by Jeff Miller, current and former Hendersonville Councilman and Jeff joined on the latest flight.
Our thanks to Tom and Alex, not only for their sacrifice and service to our country, but for accompanying their brother and sister veterans on this amazing journey.
